Reinebringen Hike - An Adventure in the Lofoten

  • Length: 3 km
  • Elevation Gain: 448 meters, 1566 stairs
  • Difficulty: Easy - medium: easy to walk - is very demanding because of the stairs, most of all if you're not used to it or have knee problems
  • Best Season: June to September
  • Dogs: Not recommended due to the steep and rocky paths
  • Children: Suitable for strong chidren, though some of the steps are very high and they might need some help. Pay extra attention at the top as there's a steep drop wothout a fence. Only take your kids if you feel safe to do it.

Parking and Directions to Reinebringen

The Reinebringen hike starts at the parking lot along the street. A lot of people park here and sleep over night as well. If this parking spot is full, you'll find more in the picturesque village Reine. From here, you'll have to walk along the street until the route leads up the famous Reinebringen, offering a breathtaking view of the fishing village and the surrounding fjords.

Gear

Sturdy footwear is essential for this hike. Hiking boots with a good tread are ideal. Additionally, you should bring weatherproof clothing as the weather in the Lofoten can change quickly, might bring a Poncho when you have on. Remember to pack enough water and snacks to keep your energy up along the way. Most people take hiking poles as the top was very slippery due to the rain that morning and it was nearly impossible to get through the mud without faceplanting.

The View

Once you reach the top, you will be rewarded with one of the most spectacular views Norway has to offer. The sight of the turquoise fjord waters and the picturesque village of Reine will take your breath away and make you forget the strenuous hike.

Safety Tips

Be cautious in rainy or wet conditions as the rocky paths can become very slippery. Always watch your step and stick to the marked trails to protect the delicate nature of the Lofoten Islands. Even when the weather looks good, bring your rainjacket, the weather conditions change quickly. Bring enough water and a snack. 

Extra Tip

Come an hour before sunset to watch the village dip into beautiful golden light.
