Parking at Bondhusvatnet
At the end of the road, there is a hiking parking lot with a fee of 100 NOK (around 10€). A friendly man helps direct the cars and collects the fee. If he’s not there, you should place an envelope with the money and your license plate number in a designated mailbox. At 11:30 AM, it was very crowded, but by 9 PM, there were very few people. Consider your timing carefully. We recommend coming early in the morning or late in the evening, although there won’t be any sun then.
The Hike to Bondhusvatnet
This hike is perfect for families with small children and strollers. Many families are on this trail because it only takes 2 hours round trip, walking slowly. The gravel path has a minimal incline, which is hardly noticeable if you’re enjoying the river, forest, and your surroundings. Embark on a small adventure together and marvel at the unnaturally turquoise water of the lake that glitters beautifully in the sunlight. The glacier lake originates from the Folgefonna Glacier, which you can see up close at the other end of the lake. Swimming is not allowed, and camping is only permitted 50 meters away from the river or lake since it’s used as drinking water. Along the hike, you’ll find picnic tables inviting you to have a snack. A lot of families brought food and snacks to spend all day here.
